Are Flushable Wipes Really Flushable?

Regulatory bodies worldwide are trying to solve the dry drains problem. It seems it's not only a lack of water that is preventing proper flush volumes from surging through the drain lines. Many blockages are caused by non-flushable items that many people think are ok to be flushed.
The term 'flushable' certainly is a catchy phrase. Add 'safe' for sewer and septic systems and it makes a very powerful sales pitch.
Evidently the definitions of 'flushable' and 'safe' are subject to interpretation. If a given product can make it through a water closet it's certainly flushable, but does that make it suitable for a sanitary sewer line? If it doesn't explode or cause physical damage to the sewer line or septic system, does it mean the product is safe?
The fact is the only things that should be flushable are toilet paper, urine, and fecal matter.
Over the years The Drainman has removed tons of things that make it through the water closet but never made it through the customer's sewer line. That 'flushable' list includes toys, diapers, socks, underpants, teeth, jewellery and the list goes on.
Until now, tampons have long been the single most reliable sewer stopper. The Drain Man was recently asked to visit with a customer whose sewer was blocked. Our machine removed a number of small cloth-like obstructions. They were tough as nails and hard to remove from the sewer machine cable auger, having been tightly wound and bound. It turns out they were wipes. The Drainman recommends that such a product should not be flushed.

How The Drain Man relining system works:
Before any relining takes place, the drains must first be inspected and surveyed. We use a "Color CCTV pipe camera" to identify and locate the cause of the problem. The drain is then cleared using a high pressure water jet; once the blockage is cleared the pipe is then ready for the Liner installation.
The Flex liner is custom made from fabric that is impregnated with a specially formulated two part epoxy resin that sets hard in a matter of hours allowing minimal disruption and inconvenience.
Once the liner is tailor made and prepared, it is inserted in to your drain via any opening in the drain. It is positioned in place with a CCTV camera and inflated, forcing the liner to take the shape of the pipe filling and voids, cracks or lining over any damaged section. After a 2-4 hour (subject to weather and conditions) curing period, the internal bladder of the liner will be retrieved, completing the process and making the drain ready for use immediately.
On completion of all works carried out, you will receive a "before and after DVD video survey" of your drain, 6 year work guarantee and a 40 year product guarantee.

Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fundraising

During these harsh times The Drain Man would like to show our support to all Victorians who have lost loved ones and have had their homes and communities devastated by the recent bushfires.
The Drain Man will be donating $10 from every job undertaken from the 24th. February to the 31st. March 2009 to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
We have applied for and received a "Letter of Authority for Community Fundraising" from the Australian Red Cross accepting all future donations made by The Drain Man to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
The Red Cross has advised that they will cease collecting donations for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal from the end of March 2009.
In anticipation we would like to extend our thanks to all our customers for your ongoing support.

Melbourne will remain on Stage 3A water restrictions until 30 June 2009.
The continuation of Stage 3A restrictions will provide Melburnians with greater certainty over the next nine months while maintaining the existing savings by households, industry and the wider community.
Maintaining Stage 3a restrictions, which were first introduced on 1 April 2007, will allow businesses including nurseries, car washes and landscape gardeners to approach this summer with greater security.
