- Have your drains checked regularly. Repair or replace them when needed to keep them in good shape.
- Don’t plant new trees or large shrubs close to where your drains run underground.
- Don’t plant large trees with aggressive roots close to your house.
Check above the ground too. Leaves and twigs that land on your roof can wash down gutters and into downpipes, which adds to blockages. Put clearing your gutters on your home care list as well.
