When your drain starts to gurgle
A healthy drain is quiet. If your sink goes “blob, blob” or your bath gurgles while you shower, there’s likely a partial blockage. Air gets trapped in the pipe and bubbles back up as the water tries to pass.
Other signs to watch for:
- Water takes longer than usual to drain away.
- The toilet bowl fills high, then empties slowly.
- Sewer smells inside or around the house.
- The drain outside overflows when the washing machine runs.

Relining or digging up?
Replacing a damaged drain the old way means digging trenches through driveways, paths and gardens. It can take a few days, and then you pay to restore the yard.
Relining fixes the pipe from the inside. Whether you’re in Oakleigh or Officer, the whole job is often done in one day. There’s also no risk to gas pipes, power lines or phone cables under the ground.
Relining isn’t always possible. A drain that is fully collapsed or has large sections missing may need replacing. A camera inspection tells us which way to go. Compare relining and replacement.

Where does my stormwater go?
Rain from your roof, driveway and paths flows through underground pipes to a local creek or river, then out to sea. So never wash anything toxic into a stormwater drain.
Why do some newer homes block more easily?
In recent years, sewer and stormwater pipes changed from 100mm wide to a thinner 90mm. Narrower pipes block more easily, and they can take longer to clear. If you know your drains are 90mm, tell us when you book. Read about stormwater pipe sizes.
Clearing blocked drains
A blocked drain is a pain. It can also cause health problems and damage your home. Most blockages happen in one of two drains: the sewer or the stormwater.
- It’s a sewer problem if it affects things inside your home, like toilets, sinks, basins, baths or showers.
- It’s a stormwater problem if it shows up most in heavy rain. Think blocked downpipes, pits and overflowing grates. Tree roots growing into the pipe are the usual cause.
How we do it, in 3 easy steps
We get the background
When you book, we ask about the blockage so your Drain Man is informed. Onsite, your Drain Man will confirm the details of the job and then get straight to work.
We look with a camera, then clear it
An in-drain camera finds where the blockage is. A high pressure water jet or a drain clearing machine clears it. Then we run the camera again, and you get the before and after footage.
We fix the cause
Your Drain Man shows you how to avoid more blockages. If the pipe needs it, you get a repair plan for a permanent fix.
Drain relining
Got a broken, collapsed, blocked or root filled drain? We clear the blockage without making things worse.
Our no dig drain relining uses trenchless technology. So you don’t pay to dig up and replace driveways, paths, patios or gardens. Every relined drain carries a lifetime warranty.
We use CCTV cameras to find the cause and high pressure water jets to clean the drain before we reline it. We film every job, so you see exactly what we see.
We can reline a whole sewer or stormwater drain, or just patch a short section. You end up with a stronger drain that flows better. Relined drains keep tree roots out, don’t leak, are stronger than the old pipe and are guaranteed for life.
