Tree roots in your drains
Tree roots are one of the most common causes of drains that block again and again. Roots hunt for water and nutrients. The smallest crack or gap in a pipe lets a thin root in. Inside, it grows thicker and forces the gap wider.
Roots get into stormwater drains too, where water and rotting leaves collect. In a sewer they catch toilet paper and other waste, so a blockage builds fast.
A plunger or a garden hose won’t shift them. It takes a water jetter or a cutting head to clear roots properly. To stop them coming back, the crack that let them in has to be sealed. Our post on keeping tree roots out of your drains covers your options.

Do I pay extra for the camera?
No. We always do a camera inspection first, and it’s part of our service fee at no extra charge. We show you the footage, so you see what we see.
What usually blocks a toilet?
Too much toilet paper is the most common cause. Wipes, tissues and paper towels don’t break down, so they make it worse. After a number two, use a full flush. If the toilet still won’t clear, call us rather than pushing the blockage deeper.
Clearing blocked drains
A blocked drain is a pain. It can also cause health problems and damage your home. Most blockages happen in one of two drains: the sewer or the stormwater.
- It’s a sewer problem if it affects things inside your home, like toilets, sinks, basins, baths or showers.
- It’s a stormwater problem if it shows up most in heavy rain. Think blocked downpipes, pits and overflowing grates. Tree roots growing into the pipe are the usual cause.

When you book, we ask about the blockage so we use our time well. On site, your Drain Man looks over the job with you and decides how to check it. We’re not on the clock until this step is done.
We look with a camera, then clear it
An in-drain camera finds where the blockage is. A high pressure water jet or a drain clearing machine clears it. Then we run the camera again, and you get the before and after footage.
We fix the cause
Your Drain Man shows you how to avoid more blockages. If the pipe needs it, you get a repair plan for a permanent fix.
Drain relining
Got a broken, collapsed, blocked or root filled drain? We clear the blockage without making things worse.
Our no dig drain relining uses trenchless technology. So you don’t pay to dig up and replace driveways, paths, patios or gardens. Every relined drain carries a lifetime warranty.
We use CCTV cameras to find the cause and high pressure water jets to clean the drain before we reline it. We film every job, so you see exactly what we see.
We can reline a whole sewer or stormwater drain, or just patch a short section. You end up with a stronger drain that flows better. Relined drains keep tree roots out, don’t leak, are stronger than the old pipe and are guaranteed for life.
