The Drain Man has cleared blocked drains and relined pipes on the Mornington Peninsula for over 30 years. We cover the whole peninsula, and our team lives here.

Map of the Mornington Peninsula that The Drain Man services

From Mount Eliza to Portsea

On the bay side we cover Mount Eliza, Mornington and Mount Martha. We also cover Dromana, Rosebud, Rye, Sorrento and Portsea. Across the other side we cover Cape Schanck, Somers and Hastings.

Each year on the peninsula we clear more than 600 blockages. We also reline more than 2,500 metres of drain with drain relining.

We’re a local, Australian owned company. Our staff live on the Mornington Peninsula. Closer to the city, we cover Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs.

Signs your drain needs a look

Drains often warn you before they block for good. Watch for these signs at home, whether you live in Rosebud or Somerville.

  • Your sink, shower or bath drains slowly.
  • Your toilet fills up when you flush, then drains away slowly.
  • You hear gurgling from a plughole or the toilet. Our post on gurgling drains explains why.
  • You smell something bad from a sink or shower.
  • Water pools in the garden, driveway or garage, or your gutters overflow.
  • The drain outside overflows when the washing machine runs.

It pays to act early. The longer a blockage grows, the harder it is to clear.

Keeping your drains clear

A few simple habits go a long way.

  • Put wipes in the bin, even the ones sold as flushable. They don’t break down like toilet paper. Find out why in are flushable wipes really flushable?
  • Keep cooking fat and oil out of the sink. It sets hard as it cools and traps food scraps.
  • Don’t plant new trees or large shrubs close to where your drains run.
  • Clear your gutters, so leaves and twigs don’t wash into your downpipes.
  • Have your drains checked regularly, and repair them when they need it.

Questions from Mornington Peninsula customers

Can I clear a blocked drain myself?

Sometimes. For a slow sink or shower, pour in a kettle of boiling water, then add baking soda and vinegar. Wait 5 to 10 minutes and flush it with more boiling water. A blocked toilet is a different story. Pushing the blockage deeper can make it worse, so it’s best left to a pro. Our guide can I clear a blocked drain myself? has the details.

How do pipes get broken underground?

Renovations, recent digging and heavy vehicles driving over a drain can all break it. Heavy rain can make the ground sag. Long dry spells or very wet ones can make the ground move, and that can crack a pipe too.

Why does my drain keep blocking?

Often something is wrong inside the pipe. Tree roots, a partly collapsed pipe or joints that have come apart all trap waste. A camera shows us which one it is, so we fix the cause and not just the symptom. See why your drain keeps getting blocked.

Clearing blocked drains

A blocked drain is a pain. It can also cause health problems and damage your home. Most blockages happen in one of two drains: the sewer or the stormwater.

  • It’s a sewer problem if it affects things inside your home, like toilets, sinks, basins, baths or showers.
  • It’s a stormwater problem if it shows up most in heavy rain. Think blocked downpipes, pits and overflowing grates. Tree roots growing into the pipe are the usual cause.

How we do it, in 3 easy steps

  1. We get the background

When you book, we ask about the blockage so your Drain Man is informed. Onsite, your Drain Man will confirm the details of the job and then get straight to work.

  2. We look with a camera, then clear it

An in-drain camera finds where the blockage is. A high pressure water jet or a drain clearing machine clears it. Then we run the camera again, and you get the before and after footage.

  3. We fix the cause

Your Drain Man shows you how to avoid more blockages. If the pipe needs it, you get a repair plan for a permanent fix.

Drain relining

Got a broken, collapsed, blocked or root filled drain? We clear the blockage without making things worse.

Our no dig drain relining uses trenchless technology. So you don’t pay to dig up and replace driveways, paths, patios or gardens. Every relined drain carries a lifetime warranty.

We use CCTV cameras to find the cause and high pressure water jets to clean the drain before we reline it. We film every job, so you see exactly what we see.

We can reline a whole sewer or stormwater drain, or just patch a short section. You end up with a stronger drain that flows better. Relined drains keep tree roots out, don’t leak, are stronger than the old pipe and are guaranteed for life.
